Growing Together in Montford Park

A free, open garden rooted in community — where neighbors will plant, tend, and share in the harvest.

About the Garden

As Montford Park continues to grow and evolve, so do the needs of the people who call it home. With new apartment buildings rising across the neighborhood, more residents than ever are living without access to a yard, a plot of soil, or a place to simply get their hands in the dirt. The envisioned Montford Park Community Garden aims to change that.

We are exploring the creation of a shared, living space — open and free to every member of our community. Imagine a place where you can grow fresh vegetables for your table, cultivate a patch of wildflowers, or simply enjoy the beauty of something blooming in the neighborhood. We want that place to exist in Montford Park, and we want to build it with you.

Our Mission

We believe that access to green space and the act of growing things together are powerful forces for community connection. The Montford Park Community Garden is a proposed project of Montford Park Partners, a local nonprofit committed to strengthening the bonds that make this neighborhood thrive. Through initiatives like this garden, we hope to build a more engaged, vibrant, and inclusive Montford Park for everyone — renters, long-time residents, and newcomers alike.

Free & Open to All

No membership. No fees. No experience required.

When realized the Montford Park Community Garden will be free and accessible to all community members. The vision is simple: claim a plot, join a neighbor who's already growing, or simply come by to enjoy the flowers and fresh air. Produce grown in the garden would be meant to be shared — a living expression of what this neighborhood can create when it comes together.

Help Us Make It Happen

This is just the beginning, and your voice matters. We want to hear from neighbors who are excited about this idea, interested in getting involved, or have thoughts on what this garden could mean for the community. Together, we can turn this vision into something real.

A proposed community development initiative by Montford Park Partners — rooted in Montford Park, and ready to grow.

  • We are currently exploring potential sites within the Montford Park neighborhood, especially along the Little Sugar Creek greenway. Location is one of the key decisions we'll be making in collaboration with the community, and we want to ensure the garden is accessible to as many residents as possible.

  • Everyone. The garden is envisioned as a fully inclusive, community-wide space. Whether you're a longtime Montford Park resident or just moved into one of the neighborhood's newer apartments, you would be welcome to participate — no prior gardening experience needed.

  • Yes. It is important to us that cost is never a barrier to participation. Our goal is for the garden to be completely free to use, with no fees, memberships, or commitments required.

  • The garden would be open to both flowers and edible produce — vegetables, herbs, fruit, and more. We envision a mix of individual plots where neighbors can tend their own crops alongside shared communal beds that everyone can contribute to and enjoy.
